Not-quite-macro minerals

During my last trip to the Houston Museum of Natural Science, I didn't spend all my time drooling over at Dinosaur Mummy: CSI (even though I wish I could have.) Having taken my macro lens along, I decided to head to the Cullen Hall of Gems and Minerals to see what I could get with a 50 mm f/2.8 macro lens and ISO-3200:

Part of the problem with using a macro lens is the fact that the depth of field is very narrow. Most of the shots weren't focused exactly where I wanted, but the two shown here came out pretty much as I visualized them.
