Hate-Mongers To Visit H-Town
I read about this late last week, on Facebook I think. At first, I couldn't believe my eyes, so this morning I decided to check it out for myself. And, no, I am not going to provide clicky links: if you want to verify this information, you can Google it yourself. I am not going to provide them any form of traffic or referrals.
It seems that the fine folks{/sarcasm} from Westboro "Baptist Church", that delightful oasis{/sarcasm} and shining example{/sarcasm} of God's Love{/sarcasm}, has decided to bring their act to Houston, in honor of... something or other. I suspect it has something to do with the recent mayoral election. From the schedule on their website (I visited it so you don't have to), here is their "protest schedule" (sans the vitriol and filth masquerading as 'Bible quotes'):
- Sunday, January 3
- 0800-0900: Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 1111 St. Joseph Parkway
- 0930-1100: Lakewood Church, 3700 Southwest Freeway
- 1145-1230: Holocaust Museum, 5401 Caroline
- 1300-1330: Jewish Community Center/Jewish Federation, 5601 S. Braeswood
- 1645-1715: Congregation Beth Yeshurun, 4525 Beechnut
- Monday, January 4
- 0714-0745: Emery/Weiner (Jewish) School, 9825 Stella Link
- 0845-0915: Anti-Defamation League, 4635 Southwest Freeway
- 0920-0950: Jewish Herald-Voice,
- 1000-1100: City Council, 901 Bagby
They are going to protest against gays (lesbians, technically), Catholics, Jews, and... at the Holocaust Museum!? WTF!?, dude, is your major malfunction?
Think I can let this pass unchallenged? Oh HELL to the NO. Not. gonna. happen.
Now, here's what I would like us all to do. Let's give these fools jerks a**holes "guests" a true H-Town welcome. No, seriously, put away the tar, feathers, and ropes. And leave the guns at home. Let's show them how civilized people (a group they obviously don't hang out with very often) behave. It's perfectly all right to show up wherever they are, and engage in counter-protests. However, we need to keep it clean, we need to keep it civil, and above all we need to Keep It Legal.
I fully plan on showing up at one of the "events" (most likely at the Holocaust Museum), camera (and press credentials, such as they are) in hand, to record for posterity the face of evil, and the response of a civilized society. Oh, yes, and also to let them know what I think of them and their God-d***ed "religion". In case you haven't figured it out, I most certainly have an opinion about this, and as far as I am concerned, you can forget all about that "We Report, You Decide" s***.
Thank Zog that's finished. Reading the hateful bile being spewed from that site sort of reminded me of some of the commenters over at the HoustonBelief blogs who call themselves "Christian". I can certainly see what Jesus felt as he witnessed those who were perverting the Jewish religion back in the day, and what He must surely feel as He is watching those who slander His name, in the name of the "religion" that carries His name, even today. After I finish with this, I am sure I will need to go take a long, hot, cleansing shower, and even then it may take days... no, weeks... no, make that months, before I feel clean again.
For now, though, I'm off... to the decontamination chamber...
