Foodie Friday: Which came first, the bacon or the egg?

This past Wordless Wednesday, I introduced a new bowl of yummy I enjoyed over the weekend. I also introduced the concept of Foodie Friday, where I will try and blog on some food-related topic on Friday. Because I can.
While at my favorite Midtown latte haus, I saw a flavor in the gelato case which caught my eye: Egg & Bacon.
Yes, you read that right. And, you can see it, right here:

The server suggested I take a taste before ordering, as it was likely to be a "love it or hate it" thing. I tasted, I ordered, I ate, I loved loved LOVED it. The gelato was sweet (as one would expect an ice cream to be.) I don't know that there was a strong taste of egg (most ice cream is in fact based on a custard, which includes - you guessed it - eggs), but it didn't have the strong vanilla taste one often associates with "white" ice creams. What I did notice, however, was the unmistakable taste of bacon. In fact, if there was one complaint I had, it was that the bacon pieces were too large, and too concentrated by sprinkling them on top - instead of being more thoroughly mixed in to the gelato, which would have softened the saltiness.
Even with this, though, I think I will try it again the next time I am there. And, I would suggest you do likewise, should you get the chance.
