Sometimes, a Ford is better
This goes to show that every once in a while, the passage of time does tend to alter one's perception of historical events.
Being a bit older than Polimom, Gerald Ford was the first Presidential candidate I voted for. I remember being disappointed, but not surprised, when he lost to Jimmy Carter in '76. His pardon of Richard Nixon was certainly a major factor in his loss - and I am glad to see that, by the time of his passing, some folks are beginning to understand the wisdom of what he did that day.
Don Surber has a slightly different take on the whole Ford-Nixon era, especially why Nixon was forced from office. An interesting perspective, and IMHO something the current President would be well advised to pay heed to.
R.I.P. Mr. President.
