Veteran's Day: their service, remembered
Browsing the web this morning, I happened upon this posting over at Polimom's blog, which reminded me that today was Veteran's Day:
AC’s grandfather made frequent trips to the VA hospital on the other side of his state, and his social life revolved around the local VFW. Have you spent any time at either?
Whether you answered “never”, or “not in a very long time”, today would be an excellent day to drop by and pay your respects.
On Veterans Day, it’s the very least we, as Americans, can do.
Another place you can go, if one is nearby, is the VA Cemetery. Since we have one in Houston, and I know someone who is buried there, that is where we went. When we got there, I located the grave site I was seeking, and took off on foot to find it and pay my respects. Then, it was back in the car, and off to drive around the cemetery and see what changes had been made.
I managed to take several photos, which I thought I would share with you. First of all, we have a view of the chapel:

Next, a photo of the grave of one of the local heroes, SSgt Macario Garcia:

And, last but not least, the grave site of another veteran. Maybe not a hero known nationally, but he will always be a hero to me and my family:

Rest in Peace - your sacrifice is appreciated.
